Public Library

Situated on the site of the former Emerson School, the Flagstaff Public Library opened its doors in 1986. As it relates to the town’s history, the library was a long time in finding its permanent home on this corner. Flagstaff has always had a library of some sort since the early 1900s but it took 80 odd years to establish it properly. The more historical building (which the library shares a part of the basement with structurally) was Emerson School. Built in 1898, it served the community until the mid-1980s as an elementary, middle and/or high school. It was an imposing two-story, red brick building with large windows and the aforementioned basement. You can still find locals today who finished their education in its cavernous rooms and have plenty of stories to tell of their school days.

What To Expect on Your Guided Tour

When the day and time have arrived you’ll meet your group at the proper location. We ask our guests to arrive five to ten minutes early so your guide has time to greet your party and check you in. The guide will have the night’s itinerary at hand so your job is to show up in comfortable clothes and walking shoes and be prepared for whatever pops up during the tour. Several of our guests have captured orbs on phone cameras so feel free to snap away. Freaky Tours would love it if you share any images you capture and we’re working on a website where images and experiences can be shared.
